Both Lafayette and Oxford High Schools have landed one on the Mississippi Alabama All-Star Game rosters.
Lafayette’s Azariah Buford and Oxford’s Kylan Blackmon were named to the all-star game rosters on Monday, and will play Friday in the game featuring the top seniors from Mississippi and Alabama.
Blackmon took his play to a whole new level in his senior year, averaging over 25 points per game in a year that Oxford earned a first round playoff bye. Last year in the Mississippi North-South All-Star game, Blackmon was named MVP of the game after dropping 14 points, including hitting four three-point shots.
Buford took on a different role her senior season, being asked to play more in the post on a team lacking size. In a new role, she averaged 13.6 points and 6.2 rebounds, helping lead a Lady Commodore team to the playoff quarterfinals.
Both seniors, it’s the second straight year being named to a Mississippi All-Star team for both Blackmon and Buford.
Alabama leads the girls’ series by a 15-14 margin and the boys’ series 15-14. Alabama won both games in 2019 in Montgomery, Ala., as the Alabama girls’ squad defeated the Mississippi girls by a score of 101-82 and the Alabama boys’ team won over the Mississippi all-stars by the score of 107-90. The games will be produced and televised on live streaming on the FNUTL network (fnutl.com) and the MAC Network.
Mississippi and Alabama will tipoff on Friday, March 13, 2020, at the A. E. Wood Coliseum, Mike Jones Court, on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton. The 30th annual girls’ game will tip off at 5 p.m. and the 30th annual boys’ game will begin at approximately 7 p.m.
