Oxford High School’s archery program was just a club sport one year ago.
Now 2020, it’s taken the team very little time to adjust to the competitive level of play of an official sport.
Competing earlier this week in only their second competition of the season, and thus program history, the Chargers team took home first place in the competition hosted by Water Valley High School.
“The students are improving at each meet and really working hard on their skills, ” coach Rose Hickey said.
Each member of the 28-person Oxford team gets the opportunity to shoot at each meet, with the top-12 scoring shooters’ scores tallied.
Oxford’s top shooters at the Water Valley victory were Grayson Grantham, Walker Crouch, Austin Nichols, Brent Lee, Eryn Manucy, Denazah Polingo, Jaden Taylor, Kanesha Baggett, Zoe Wilson, Gray Cassidy, Morgan Hickey and Nicole Reynolds.
