Obituary – W. Troy Young

On Saturday, Jan.18, 2020, W. Troy Young unexpectedly passed on to be with his Lord and King. A faithful father of four, beloved husband and cherished son, Troy’s family is heartbroken by this loss but rejoices in knowing that he now knows perfect peace.
A counselor and a lifelong resident of Oxford, Troy’s legacy is measured in the countless lives he impacted with his practical wisdom, adventurous spirit and authentic, self-sacrificing love. An avid outdoorsman, mountain-man and guide, he was affectionately known as “Grandaddy OMOD, Hawkeye, El Jefe and the Real-Deal.”
His family asks that you join them not only in grieving, but also in celebrating Troy’s life and his embarking on the greatest adventure of all.
Troy graduated from Oxford High School (’83), then attended the University of Mississippi (’88), after which he earned a master’s degree from Texas State University and a master’s degree from Denver Seminary.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Gilkerson Young; his four sons, Tristan, Coleman, Blake, and Timothy; his parents, Jerry Young and Judy East Young; and countless friends he called his brothers. He loved well and was well loved.
A visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, from 4 p.m. to 7p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford. A funeral service will be on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Lawndale Presbyterian Church (1500 Lawndale Dr, Tupelo, MS 38801). Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
