Garden of Memories will honor Oxford’s fallen veterans while participating in a nationwide ceremony on Saturday called “Wreaths Across America.”
The group will place 35 wreaths on the graves of U.S. Veterans and will be among 1,600 memorial sites across the country placing wreaths. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with opening remarks from Matthew Malone, director of cemetery services at Garden of Memories Oxford.
“We want to embrace the families who have lost a serviceman or -woman,” Malone said. “We want to give members of the community the opportunity to pay tribute to those who are currently serving and have served for our country.”
There are currently 35 veterans buried at Garden of Memories Oxford, which is located adjacent to The Orchard Church off Highway 7. The cemetery provides a dedicated Veterans Garden for veterans and their families.
The event will honor each veteran laid to rest at Garden of Memories, but also each specific branch of the military. A flag-retiring ceremony will be carried out by local Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts troops.
