Obituary – Paul Brand

Paul Brand departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, at the age of 87, 14 Days. He was born Aug.4, 1932, in Harrisburg, Ark, to the late Carl Jonas and Lillian Clifton Brand.
Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Abbeville, Miss., with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery at Harrisburg, Ark.
Mr. Brand worked in commercial construction and throughout his career he worked on military academies, stadiums, and capital buildings. He was called out of retirement to supervise the work on the LSU stadium. In his younger years, he owned Westwood Resort in Bull Shoals, Ark., and served as chief of the volunteer fire department in Bull Shoals. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Abbeville and played dominos every Wednesday with members of the church. He was Past Master and 32nd degree Mason and member of Abbeville Lodge #320. He was a natural born leader and took great pride in his endeavors. He was especially proud of his children and their success in their lives and careers.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Brand, of Abbeville; a daughter, Paula Garavelli, and husband, Ray, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sons, Carlie Brand, and wife, Sonya, of Selmer, Tenn., Reginald Brand, and wife, Elizabeth, of Houston, Texas, Michael Brand, and wife, Beth, of Dahlonega, Ga., Patrick Brand, of Guys, Tenn.; a sister, Pearl Thomas, of Gary, Ind.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brand was preceded in death by four sisters, Nina Brand, Vivian Hobbs, Mable Cobb, Mary Casey; three brothers, Albert, Carl J. and Claud Brand.
