Obituary – Jerry Dean Moore

Jerry Dean Moore, 84, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, at his home in Abbeville, Miss., after a long battle with prostate cancer. The funeral service will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at 11 a.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Eastover Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m. until service time at New Prospect Baptist Church.
He spent 29 years, retiring as the Manager of the auditing department at the Maryland Casualty Company of Memphis, Tenn. Jerry gave his heart to Jesus and was saved at the age of 23 when he was in the Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, on Palm Sunday, 1959. He was ordained into the gospel ministry in 1981 at Cherokee Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Chester Moore; his mother, Sue Reading; his brother, Art Moore; and his daughter, Lynda Walker.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Zana Moore, of Abbeville; his daughter, Melanie Murry (Lee), of Abbeville; and his son, Jerry Moore, Jr. (Kristi), of Abbeville. He is also survived by three sisters: Connie Lewis, of Tulsa, Okla., Darlene Angel, of New Mexico, and Elaine Erwin, of Charlotte, N.C. Also surviving him are 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 9 step grandchildren.
