Local nonprofit Sister, S.O.A.R. is celebrating its second anniversary by hosting a Beauties and Brunch event on Saturday, Aug. 24.
Sister, S.O.A.R., which stands for Success Over Adversity – Redeemed, was founded in 2017 by Minister Chris D. Jones. The organization’s mission is to equip, educate and empower women and girls with 21st-Century skills to enable them to become productive in their respective homes, communities and the world abroad.
“One cannot fly on broken wings. It is our reasonable service to assist others as they are being healed and restored,” Jones said. “Together we can S.O.A.R. – have Success Over Adversity; and be Redeemed.”
The Beauties & Brunch event will take place at Price Hill Park at 10 a.m. Featured speakers will include newly elected Alderman Kesha Howell-Atkinson, Life Coach and Mississippi Domestic Violence Director Missie Wilson and Oxford Police Department Officer Renika Ivy. Jones will speak as well. There will also be a live performance by a local dance team.
Sister, S.O.A.R. operates through sponsorship and donations. All donations are tax-deductible and can be made through paypal.me/sistersoar. In efforts to raise funds for the organization, it will host its first “Uniquely ME Fashion Show Fundraiser Event” on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott located at 305 Jackson Ave. East in Oxford. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.
