Charles Murray Veazey, 79, died Friday, June 21, 2019, at Elmcroft Senior Living in Oxford. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Barksdale and Dr. Laurie Jones officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at First Marks Cemetery in Marks, Miss. Visitation will be Monday, June 24, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home.
Charles was born February 4, 1940, in Ethel, Miss., to the late M.T. and Nannie Sue Hines Veazey. He was a retired Certified Public Accountant with Veazey and Clayton, PLLC where he was certified in both Texas and Mississippi. He was the longest serving member of the Quitman County Rotary Club and had served as Past President and Secretary Treasurer two times during his membership. Charles was a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club and had also served two terms as President of the Quitman County Mississippi State Alumni Association (he jokingly called himself a misplaced Bulldog in Rebel Country). He was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he had served as Student Body President of the Business School. Charles proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Air Force Reserves and was a faithful member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. In conclusion, this misplaced Bulldog would want you to know that you can wrap it in maroon and white!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Finley Veazey; a daughter, Debbie Long; and a son, Robby Sartin. Survivors include his daughter, Pam Littlejohn, and her husband, Kent, of Oxford, and a son, David Sartin, and his wife, Lisa, of Kilmichael, Miss. Charles and Lois were the proud grandparents of ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations in Charles’ memory may be made to Northwest MS Community College Foundation, Lois Veazey Endowment, P.O. Box 7015, Senatobia, MS 38668, St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 431 North 16th Street, Oxford, MS 38655 or Delta Academy of Marks, P.O. Box 70, Marks, MS 38646.
In honor of Mr. Veazey’s service to his country the flag of the United States Air Force will be flown at Waller Funeral Home. For additional information or to leave an online condolence, please call 662-234-7971 or visit www.wallerfuneralhome.com.
