Before Lafayette County residents vote in this year’s elections, one precinct will find a new home. During their meeting on Monday, the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors approved the relocation of the Oxford One voting precinct.
The precinct is currently located at the Oxford Park Commission office, southeast of the Downtown Square. It will move to the Mississippi State Extension office within the soon-to-be-completed multi-purpose building at 70 F.D. Buddy East Parkway.
Until the construction of the multi-purpose building is complete, voters should go to Mississippi State Extension office’s current location at the Veteran’s Drive and Highway 7 South intersection.
Voters affected by the change will receive notification as well as a new voting card in the mail. With primaries four months away, the supervisors want to begin alerting the community now.
“What we’re trying to do is go ahead and make the change because the circuit clerk’s office has to process all the new voter ID cards and send those all out to everybody,” District 1 Supervisor Kevin Frye said. “We wanted to do it with enough notice for people to know about it and not get it in July right beforehand.”
Primaries for all 2019 state and local elections will be held on Aug. 6 with the general election taking place on Nov. 5.
