A man drowned on Monday after falling out of his boat while fishing at Sardis Lake, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Department responded to a call around 5 p.m. of a possible drowning near Wyatts Boat Landing in Harmontown.
When deputies and investigators arrived to the scene they discovered Junior Sides, 73, had been fishing and stood up in the boat and fell out. Sides was retrieved out of the lake by a friend who was fishing with him in the same boat. Officials claim Sides was not wearing a life jacket when he fell out of the boat.
People in the area attempted lifesaving efforts but were unable to revive Sides.
