The Ole Miss women’s tennis team looks to rebound this weekend, hosting Tulane at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center, located on Manning Way, on Sunday, February 3 at 12 noon.
There will be free chili to fans, in coordination with the SuperBOWL Sunday promotion.
Ole Miss (0-2) hosted the ITA Kick-Off last weekend, but lost to Purdue, 3-4, and No. 9 Michigan, 0-4. The pairs of Tereza Janatova/Anna Vrbenska and Alexa Bortles/Allie Sanford gave the Rebels the early doubles point against Purdue. Bortles and Janatova (ranked No. 112) were also victorious in singles Saturday against the Boilermakers.
Joining Janatova in the ITA rankings are Machalova (No. 68) and junior Anna Vrbenska (No. 114). In doubles, Machalova and Jandric are ranked 31st, while Vrbenska and Sanford sit at 48th.
Tulane (4-0) enters the weekend unblemished, most recently with sweeps against both Southern and Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday. The Green Wave will host No. 18 LSU on Friday before journeying to Oxford. There are no ranked players on this year’s squad, but Alex Alegre and Christina Sisti went perfect in singles last Sunday. Alegre and Laura Fabrizi did not drop a set in two double matches.
Ole Miss won the last two matches against the Green Wave in convincing fashion. In 2016, the Rebels performed a perfect 4-0 shutout in New Orleans and cruised to a 6-1 advantage in Oxford in 2015.
