The funeral service will be Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Marcus Coward officiating. Burial will follow in Thaxton Cemetery. Born in Pontotoc, Miss., Mr. Warren graduated from Mississippi State University before earning his Masters in Mathematics from the University of Mississippi. He taught math and coached at both Sturgis High School and North Panola High School before moving to Oxford where he served as Director of Institutional Research on campus. His love for Ole Miss Athletics and his passion for golf led him to join the staff at the Ole Miss Golf Course where he spent countless hours. In addition, Mr. Warren worked the shot clock for Ole Miss Basketball, but was most recognized as the friendly face behind the counter at the James Food Center Post Office. He volunteered as a little league baseball coach and worked as a basketball referee for the Mississippi High School Athletic Association and various junior colleges. Mr. Warren was a longtime member of North Oxford Baptist Church and regularly attended Thaxton Baptist Church. When there were no Ole Miss sporting events, he most enjoyed reading, particularly John Grisham’s legal thrillers, and spending time with his family. His Sundays often included church and lunch with his mother and afternoons with his granddaughters. Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his father, Donice Lamar Warren.
Survivors include a daughter, Donica Warren and her fiancé, Matt Lucas of Atlanta; a son, Michael L. Warren and his wife, Lauren of Oxford; his mother, Ethel Warren of Thaxton; a sister, Teresa McCarver and her husband, Tim of Thaxton; a brother, Dexter Warren and his wife, Joyce of Pontotoc and two grandchildren, Avery Lynn and Mary Frances Warren.
