With Summer 2018 coming to an end, it’s time to get back into the swing of things for the new school year.
Both Lafayette County and Oxford School Districts have been preparing to welcome students in the first days of August, with LCSD starting school on Friday, Aug. 3 and OSD students returning on Wednesday, Aug. 8.
Before school starts, however, students and parents will have an opportunity to meet teachers and find their classrooms at the districts’ open house events.
Open houses for LCSD will begin on Aug. 1, with a come-and-go event for preschool through second grade at Lafayette Elementary School from 4:30 to 6 p.m. On that same day, a sixth-grade only open house will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Lafayette Upper Elementary and Lafayette High School will host open house events on Aug. 2. LHS students will attend open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A come-and-go event for LUES students in third through fifth grades will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
An open house for seventh- and eighth-grade students will be held after the first day of school, on Aug. 7 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
All open house events for OSD will take place throughout the day on Monday, Aug. 6.
Marni Herrington, principal at Della Davidson Elementary School, said open house events are the ideal time for students and parents to familiarize themselves with their schools.
“Open house is a great time for students to come and tour the school, find their classrooms and get to know their teachers before the first day of school,” Herrington said. “It helps them not be so nervous about the first day of school. There will also be a lot of information for parents, like lunch times and bus routes.”
Bramlett Elementary School and Oxford Elementary School will open their doors from 3 to 5 p.m. Della Davidson Elementary School and Oxford Intermediate School will host events from 4 to 6 p.m.
Oxford Middle School and Oxford Learning Center will hold open houses from 5 to 7 p.m., and Oxford High School will host its open house event from 6 to 8 p.m.
