Applications for Oxford School District’s Free and Reduced Lunch Program are available for the 2018-2019 school year.

Parents who would like to sign their children up for the program can access the online version at https://www.oxfordsd.org/FreeReducedLunch, or access a print copy at the Child Nutrition office, located at 409 Washington Ave.

Students in grades 7 through 12 who are in need of a waiver for the district’s technology fee are especially encouraged to fill out the application, according to a statement from the district.

The $75 technology fee is assessed every year for MacBook laptops at the annual Meet Your Mac event, which will take place on July 23 through 27. For a student to receive the district’s technology fee waiver, they must first complete the application and qualify for free or reduced lunch.

“If any family needs assistance with the application, our office is here to help,” said OSD Child Nutrition Director Dan Westmoreland. “We have computers available and also paper copies in multiple languages to accommodate our families.”

To qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, families must either receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits or TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). If a family has a foster child, they are also eligible for free meals as long as they receive those benefits.

In addition to receiving a waiver for the district’s technology fee, children who qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program can eat free or at a reduced price of 40 cents a day for lunch.

Income requirements for the program vary based on household size. For example, a family of four must earn no more than $32,630 per year to qualify; a family of six must have an income of $43,862. For reduced lunches, income for a family of four must not exceed $46,435, and a family of six must not exceed $62,419.
