Graduation weekend at Ole Miss has arrived.
It’s one of our favorite weekends of the year when years of hard work by students, faculty, staff and all of their families and supporters culminates in the presentation of the degrees that represent it all.
Every hotel room in Oxford is booked. Many restaurants will be full. And, the satisfaction will run on high, as a warm May Saturday makes picturesque Oxford and Ole Miss the perfect setting for celebration.
Ole Miss Chancellor Dr. Jeff Vitter said the university has set up some 27,000 chairs around campus for graduation festivities, including 15,000 in the Grove alone.
That’s a lot of chairs, meaning the support networks of thousands of students are arriving in force, ready to congratulate and honor all the work that went into earning a degree.
Oxford and Ole Miss are up for the occasion, dressed in the many colors of spring splendor that shine in the flora and greenery this time of year.
Here’s to the graduates, who deserve the attention. And, here’s to the community for another job well done.
It’s time to hand out the degrees, celebrate and give thanks to all who helped make it happen.
