Oxford Police Department Captain Hildon Sessums has given more details regarding the incident that took place at The Lyric Oxford on Friday night.
According to Sessums, one shot was fired during the Shoot Your Shot Jersey party that was being held at the theatre located on the Oxford Square.
“At 9:48 PM, officers with the Oxford Police Department we’re outside The Lyric working a post for Double Decker when they reported a disturbance inside The Lyric. As they were entering people were saying it was a shooting. The situation was quickly contained, and an investigation ensued,” Sessums said in a statement to the media.
While initial reports indicated that one person had been shot and sustained non-life threatening injuries, the individual was actually injured in an effort to escape the Lyric, Sessums said.
“No one was actually hit by the shot that was fired. The victim that was hurt was injured by broken glass when everyone started running,” Sessums said.
The suspect fired one shot into the air following a fight that had begun outside the Lyric.
The suspect is still at large. Anyone with information is asked to contact OPD at 662-232-2400 or Crimestoppers at 662-234-8477.
