The Double Decker Arts Festival is almost here

It’s Double Decker time.
Oxford’s signature music and arts festival returns this coming week, with the annual end-of-April bash arriving Saturday on the Square.
It will be a big weekend for Oxford and Ole Miss since Double Decker coincides with the arrival of the LSU baseball team to face the Rebels in a key SEC series.
Yes, Double Decker and Ole Miss vs. LSU is almost too-good-to-be-true for one weekend. The only aspect that could make it better would be temperatures in the upper 70s with clear to partly cloudy skies.
Good news: It’s early, but that’s Saturday’s forecast.
Expect large crowds in Oxford this upcoming weekend. Judging from experience with large SEC football game weekends, we can handle it. But as spring weekends go, expect Swayze field and the Oxford Square to overflow with record crowds.
Like all good things, there is a flip side. Oxford residents will want to be prepared when crossing town for heavy traffic, avoiding the west side at high-volume times. Parents of middle and high school students will also want to be vigilant since the party will be far and wide.
Mostly, it will be fun, but there’s always the proverbial bad apples in every bunch.
The Oxford Police Department is always on the job, and though large crowds can make the work challenging, they are up to the task.
Let’s have a great Double Decker week and beat LSU at the same time.
