Roy S. Sandefer

Mr. Roy S. Sandefer, 83, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Oxford. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sandefer was born in Tutwiler, Miss. He spent over 30 years of his life in law enforcement (FBI, Police Dept., and Sheriff’s Dept.). Mr. Sandefer ended his career as the Sheriff of Lee County, Miss. He was affiliated with the Shriners and Mason organizations for most of his adult life.

Mr. Sandefer leaves behind his wife, Virginia Sandefer of Oxford; the mother of his children, Omie Payne of Plantersville, Miss; two daughters, Debora (Joel) Hernandez  of Plantersville, and Janet (Jerry) Harris of Huntsville, Ala.; one son, Scott (Cristi) Sandefer of Pontotoc, Miss.; four granddaughters, Jenna (Giovanni Zimotti) Harris of Jackson, Tenn., Jordan Harris of Huntsville, Brittany Sandefer of Abbeville, Miss. and Shelby Sandefer of Mobile, Ala.; two grandsons, Tony (Suzy) Mask of Walnut, Miss. and Tyler Sandefer of LaPlace, La.; two great-granddaughters, Danielle Mask and Paige Mask, both of Walnut; one sister, Elizabeth (Bill) Handy of Weslaco, Texas; one brother, Harold (Annette) Sandefer of Oxford; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Sandefer was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Sandefer and Eula Sandefer; one son, Roy Jeffrey Sandefer; and two brothers, Harvey Sandefer and Hubert Sandefer.

In honor of Mr. Roy Sandefer’s service to our country, the flag of the United States National Guard will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home.
