Oxford has long been known as a mecca for amateur sports, home to Division 1 Ole Miss, which competes collegiately in the Southeastern Conference.
But this week we get to see a new, exciting Oxford that is also home to a professional golf event. The arrival of the North Mississippi Classic, a Web.com Tour event from the PGA, will be played at The Country Club of Oxford, beginning Thursday with its pro-am event.
First, let’s congratulate The Country Club of Oxford for landing and hosting such an exciting event that adds another needed dimension to the community.
Spring grass is still emerging and the course is not yet in its full summer splendor, but you won’t find that slowing this tournament down. Web.com players are always eager to fight for their right to earn a PGA Tour card, so we’ll get 156 top-notch professional players tee up and shoot for the pins.
When stopping by the course late this week, we were excited to see preparations for a big event unfolding. There were bleachers on the 18th hole, concessions setting up, and everything needed to put on a professional golf event.
Many community volunteers have stepped up, offering to fill roles like scorecard carriers, the pro-am teams are lined up, and the golfers will hit the links this coming week. The EAGLE will provide complete coverage and we hope you will get out to The Country Club of Oxford and celebrate this big community win by checking out the action.
