Another example of the LOU’s generosity

The Lafayette County, Oxford and University community has a big heart, there’s no denying that.
The latest example of gracious outpouring is a community response to Oxford Police Department detective Hardie Meeks and family, who lost their home and most possessions in a fire.
Known for their devotion to meaningful community work – Hardie Meeks is a teen mentor in addition to duties as an OPD detective, while his wife, Katrina, is a family advocate with Family Crisis Services – the community is giving back.
Since the Tuesday fire claimed most of the family’s possessions co-workers and friends in the community have been donating clothing and other needed items for the couple and their two children, ages 9 and 10.
The Oxford Police Department is collecting donations and the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce is holding a PHlash Drive to collect items including gift cards to grocery stores or retail outlets that can help the family.
“We will not forget them,” said Ryan Miller of the Meeks family, urging donations that can be dropped off at the chamber office.
Indeed, the community has not forgotten the Meeks family in this time of need, sharing support on social media and with donations at the OPD and chamber.
It’s good to know in times of need that friends and neighbors throughout Oxford and Lafayette County are there beside you.
