Oxford Treehouse Gallery will be hosting a celebration of life during the traditional Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead.
The event will be Thursday, Nov. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the event and art space (328 County Rd. 418).
According to a press release, “this event will celebrate the lives of those who came before us through a memorial roll call, All Souls Altar, food and drink. This memorialization encourages us to celebrate life rather than mourn death. Bright colors, smiling faces and fun dress are welcome.”
There will be a blessing from Father Joe Tonos of Oxford’s Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church to start the night off at 6 p.m. A potluck will also be held as part of the events. Attendees are encouraged to bring food and perhaps “their departed loved one’s favorite dish.”
To participate in the memorial roll call, submit the name of a deceased loved one’s name for a larger list that will be read at sundown. An All Souls Altar will be on the gallery’s back porch for individuals to submit photos, favorite items of loved one, flowers and prayer candles.
“Oxford Treehouse Gallery is excited for this first Day of the Dead celebration and hopes to continue the tradition for years to come,” said Vivian Neil, co-founder of the gallery. “A goal of Oxford Treehouse Gallery is to share this space with other artists and to provide the public with a fine art experience in an unconventional gallery setting in beautiful Lafayette County.”
