Signs of the coming fall are popping up around Oxford. Halloween decorations have been put out on the shelves at local department stores and the leaves on trees have started to turn.
Which means Christmas is just around the corner and the W.M. Jones Detachment Marine Corps League Oxford is holding its first golf tournament this weekend to make sure every child in Lafayette County has a toy Christmas morning.
The golf tournament will kick off at 8 a.m. On Saturday at the Ole Miss Golf Course. The proceeds will go toward this year’s Toys for Tots program and help support local veterans.
Event chairman Mike Brownlee said this is the first year for the newly-formed League to hold a golf tournament.
“But we hope to do this every year,” he said.
Brownlee said golfers are still needed for the event.
“We’re looking for more to participate,” he said.
Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place teams.
The entry fee for four-man scramble teams is $200. There will be door prizes during lunch that will be provided for free.
Businesses or individual hole sponsors cost $250. Any donations of $100 up to $250 will have signs made for display.
For entry forms email Gene Hays at rghays47@gmail.com. Any other questions can be directed to Brownlee at 662-801-0867 or Hays at 662-832-7977.
