This will be a wonderful weekend to shop in Oxford.

For starters, this is Mississippi’s Tax-Free Weekend. It starts on Friday and ends on Saturday, taking the taxes off certain items under $100 including clothes.

If you need or want to make early fall or back to school purchases anyway, there’s no better time to support Oxford merchants and save yourself the sales tax.

Why not?

Additionally, Saturday will be a big day for shopping on the Oxford Square. Our friends with the Oxford Square Alliance are sponsoring their annual Summer Fest on Saturday with sidewalk sales from Square merchants.

This annual summer sale on the Square traditionally yields excellent deals and brings a big crowd to enjoy family activities on the Courthouse lawn from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. including face painting and sno cones.

In the midst of deep summer heat, shopping Oxford is a good way to spend the last weekend in July in Oxford, gearing up for the busy fall season that’s fast approaching.

And, tax-free weekend only comes around once per year. May as well make the most of it.
