The SWM/Blauer Company, a Boston-based company that specializes in clothing and protective wear for police officers, firefighters and public safety officials, celebrated 20 years in Oxford with a special ceremony Thursday. In addition to the anniversary celebration, SWM/Blauer is also honoring the retirement of Odell and Glendine Miller. Odell Miller has been working for SWM for 48 years and Glendine has been working for 37. President and CEO Michael Blauer honored the couple with a certificate of service, as well as a few gift certificates and a custom-made clock.
Blauer, after thanking the Miller family for their service to the company, read a letter written by his father and former president and CEO Charles Blauer.
“I will always be grateful for your allegiance to us,” the letter read. “I wish you the sailors wish, ‘may you always have fair winds and a following seas.’”
State Senator Chad McMahon was in attendance as well as local elected officials: County Supervisor Kevin Frye and House Rep. Jay Hughes. Together, they presented the company with a congratulatory certificate from the state Senate.
“This is a special plant, a special company and a special place to work,” McMahon said. “Thank you for your investment in Oxford.”
Odell and Glendine Miller were given individual congratulatory certificates from McMahon as well.
“It’s a great honor to be in Oxford and for the company to have a legacy of 20 years,” Michael Blauer said.
When asked about the significance of a 20 year anniversary, Blauer responded, “I believe the two previous companies that were in the building before us went out of business so we managed to make it work and its due to the hard work and loyalty of our employees here. We’re just tickled to be able to be here for 20 years.”
