Between 4,300 and 4,400 children are expected to be attending a school in the Oxford School District in the fall. But reportedly, not everyone has signed up yet.
While 2,866 students have been registered, Dr. SuzAnne Lidell, the Student Registration Director, says that 1,031 have not turned in the necessary paperwork yet. Of this latter figure, 800 students are expected to return.
Lidell said 391 have applied online, but not filled out all of the paperwork.
Liddell says that her department has been sending messaging of all kinds to get in touch with OSD parents. Whether it has been over email or detailed text messages as to where documents can be dropped off.
“We want to see everyone,” she said. “Students need to be registered so that principals can complete scheduling, so that our transportation department can make arrangements for busing and we can have all of that completed before school starts on Aug. 4. We’re encouraging parents and asking for the help of everyone here to continue to get the word out to anyone you might know.”
With all of this going on, the registration department also has to handle and process all of the new students entering the school system. That process is set to begin June 1. Liddell says they expect 300 new students to be attending come the fall.
“It is a whirlwind for the registration department, and I would like to personally thank my administrators, all of the records clerks from each of the schools that work during the drop-off events and the principals who have released them from the schools even at times when it was inconvenient,” Liddell concluded.
