Mrs. McCormick was born in Oxford to the late David Newton Tankersley and Lillian Lawley Tankersley.  In addition to being a very loving mother and grandmother, during her lifetime, Alice worked in a variety of jobs, ranging from a position at Motors Insurance Corporation in California to secretary to the Superintendent of Oxford City Schools, as well as at the University of Mississippi.  In 1982, she obtained her nursing degree from Northwest Mississippi Junior College, and, as an LPN, worked at Graceland Care Center in Oxford.

Alice was a graduate of University High School, where she was once voted Homecoming Queen. Following her graduation from Ole Miss, she spent some years as a Navy wife, living in Florida and California.  She returned to Oxford around 1968, and has remained here since. Alice was a member of First Presbyterian Church; she was a kind and joyful woman who cherished her family and friends.  In recent years, her favorite pastimes were visiting and watching the birds from her front porch. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian McElreath, her first husband, Jack Milligan, and her second husband, Jack McCormick.
