A new addiction treatment center could soon be operating from Oasis Church of All Nations, located on Highway 6.
Pastor David Reeves explained to the Lafayette County Planning Commission during their meeting Monday that the center would be regulated by Teen Challenge, a nationally known ministry of the Assemblies of God. Reeves said the center, known as Transformations Life Center, is not a detox center. According to their Facebook page, TLC is a year-long “discipleship program centered around those who are battling addictions of all kinds.”
The facility has met the requirements of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, as well as local building regulations, but the planning commission would like for the facility to seek state approval indicating they are authorized to operate from the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. Stonewater Addiction Recovery Center, which is in the process of operating in the county, was required to get state approval.
Reeves said Transformations Life Center will function entirely differently from Stonewater.
“We take people who are either having dysfunctional lives or either have been through many rehabs and it didn’t fix their lives,” Reeves said. “We are not dealing with the chemical side of treating people who have chemical addictions. It’s basically a hardcore discipleship.”
The commission granted approval contingent upon the facility acquires approval from the state.
