An Alabama man was indicted by a Lafayette County grand jury on a charge of manslaughter for allegedly choking another man to death, according to the Oxford Police Department.

According to reports, on Oct. 1, 2016, Oxford police officers responded to the Ole Miss Motel where they found two injured men.

EMS arrived and were unable to help Henry Chandler Jenkins, 39, of Lafayette County, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Donald Ludie Lassiter, 52, of Pennington, Alabama sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital to receive medical attention.

After further investigation, OPD investigators arrested Lassiter at Baptist Memorial-North Mississippi and charged him with manslaughter. Jenkin’s death was a result of strangulation as determined by the state autopsy report.

According to the indictment, Lassiter killed Jenkins “in the heat of passion,” not necessarily in self-defense and without premeditation.

Enticement of minor

A man arrested for allegedly trying to lure a minor at Oxford High School for sexual purposes was indicted earlier this month by the Lafayette County grand jury for enticement of a child, possession of pornography and promoting prostitution.

According to the court records, investigators with the Oxford Police Department were contacted in September 2016 by a school resource officer from the Oxford School District, who was contacted earlier by a concerned parent who found suspicious text messages on their child’s phone by Donald Barker, 27.

The SRO believed Barker had intentions of coming to Oxford High School to meet the minor for sex. The Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit was also involved in the investigation.

Investigators, now in possession of the minor’s phone, continued to receive messages from the unsuspecting Barker, allegedly requesting to meet with the minor for sex.

When Barker pulled up to the school, investigators and Metro agents took him into custody without incident.

A search warrant was issued for Barker’s phone and residence. During the search, a computer was seized which held evidence of child pornography, as well as messages where he promoted a minor for prostitution.
