Oxonians watching President Donald Trump’s inauguration

By the time most Oxonians sit down to read their EAGLE today, President Donald Trump will have been sworn in as the nation’s 45th president.
And Oxford resident Dion Kevin will have seen it all first hand.
Kevin arrived in Washington D.C. Thursday and is staying with friends.
“This is a very significant event by itself, regardless of who was elected,” Kevin said, although he proudly supported Trump during his campaign. “It’s historically significant because it’s the first time a political outsider has gotten there.”
Kevin has passes to the swearing-in ceremony this morning and will be attending the Inaugural Ball.
Kevin served on the Lafayette County Republican Executive Committee. When GOP Mississippi Executive Director Spender Ritchie offered up passes, Kevin didn’t hesitate.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Kevin said. “In eight years, the country is going in a completely different direction. You’ve had a complete swing of the political trend.”
Kevin said Washington D.C. itself was already bursting with activity on Thursday.
“Everything is fenced off and it’s hard to get around,” he said. “It’s pretty nuts, but very exciting.”
Local Real Estate agent and Lafayette County chairman for the Donald Trump Campaign, Steve Vassallo is also attending the inauguration. On Thursday, he sent an email to the EAGLE saying he had met Katrina Pierson, national spokesperson for Trump’s campaign.
“You just never know who you might run into when you’re in the midst of the action,” he said in the email.
