Jay Perritt Mayfield Sr., 50, of Paragould, Arkansas, died Monday at his residence.

He was a co-manager at Wal-Mart and a member of East Side Baptist Church. Jay had a servant’s heart. It was apparent through his involvement with the Gideons and as he served as a Reserve Deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. He was the son of James and Patricia Mayfield of Etta.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ben and Nettie Mayfield, and his maternal grandfather, Riley A. Smith.

Jay is survived by his wife of 27 years, Donna Mayfield, of the home; sons, Jay Perritt Mayfield, Jr. and Jarrod Mayfield, both of Paragould; parents; maternal grandmother, Ruth Smith of Oxford; brother, Jody (Margie) Mayfield of Oxford; sister, Janna (Kim) Moorhead of Olive Branch; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a catered reception and visitation in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford on Wednesday from 12-2 p.m. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. in the Waller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Miller and the Rev. Jason Lincoln officiating. Burial will be in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Alan Greer, Hal Greer, Mark Smith, Ray Garrett, Jeff Thomas, David Carwyle, Jeremy Carwyle, and James Carwyle.
