Oxford native and gospel singer Debra Prather is set to release her sophomore inspirational album on June 16.
Now based in Atlanta, the songwriter and recording artist has been performing for more than 30 years and is currently promoting her latest album “Grace” which features a culmination of tracks built on her personal walk of faith and ministry to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“I am a woman who loves, loves serving God through music,” Prather said.
Prather said gospel music is all she has ever known. Her father, the late Rev. Cassie Bonner Sr., was called to the ministry before she was born and she began singing in church at age 2.
“With respect to my passion for music, I didn’t have a choice in the matter growing up in Oxford in a musical family,” Prather said. “My home was full of music and learning the Word of God. This was our way of life.”
Prather sees her latest project crossing over to many genres, including R&B, country, jazz and contemporary Christian.
