Mississippians on Saturday will be able to support nonprofit organizations in the Magnolia State by participating in the first ever Mississippi Day of Giving.

More than 700 nonprofits in all 82 counties are registered to participate in this momentous event during which Mississippians across the state and around the country will have 24 hours to make a difference by donating to the causes they care about.

“From the beginning, the expectations for the first-ever Mississippi Day of Giving were big,” said Stacy Andrews, director of strategic partnerships and community engagement for Volunteer Mississippi. “But the participation we’ve gotten from local nonprofits and businesses has been astounding. Registering more than 700 nonprofits for the first year of this event speaks to how giving is to woven into the fabric of Mississippians.”

The Day of Giving will connect passionate donors across the state and nation to important local causes using a peer-to-peer giving platform created by GiveGab, an organization that helps nonprofits leverage social volunteering and giving. Volunteers and donors can register as fundraising champions for organizations they support and leverage their social networks to increase the amount of money organizations can raise.

Organizations that were previously unable to accept donations online or electronically due to budget or personnel constraints will be provided with this service for 24 hours by participating in the Day of Giving.

“The excitement is at an all-time high, and to push this level through the roof, sponsors have helped us incentivize giving with over $30,000 in prize money,” said Chris Beeman, co-founder and senior vice president of business development at GiveGab. “All organizations, regardless of size and location, will have a chance to win a portion of this prize pool and multiply the amount they raise on the Day of Giving.

The Yoknapatawhp Arts Council, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi and the United Way of Oxford and Lafayette County are among the local nonprofits that have registered for the one-day event.
