Springtime in Oxford brings about many things, including one of the city’s more iconic symbols. Starting next month the Double Decker buses will begin their historic tours through Oxford and the Ole Miss campus.

Imported over from England in 1994, the Double Decker became synonymous with the city of Oxford over the past 25 years. The annual Double Decker Arts Festival, which takes place on the Square every April, was named after the buses.

“We began doing the Double Decker bus tours about eight years ago to give people the opportunity to experience and learn about Oxford’s unique history,” Visit Oxford director Mary Allyn Hedges said. “The Double Decker bus offers the perfect vantage point to enjoy all Oxford has to offer.”

Public tours will start on March 15 and be offered every Friday of Ole Miss’ home SEC baseball weekends. Each tour will be begin at the Visit Oxford office located at 1013 Jackson Avenue East and will have a tour guide. The tours are an hour in length that covers historic portions of Oxford and Ole Miss. Points of interest on the tour include North and South Lamar, the downtown Square, the Lyceum and civil rights marker on Ole Miss’ campus.

All tours begin at 4 p.m. and there will be an additional 3 p.m. tour on April 26 and May 10. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for kids and adult tickets come with a coupon for $100 off a purchase at Blue Delta Jeans.
