Uber Eats, the food delivery branch of the popular ride-sharing app, is officially available in the LOU community.

There are a variety of restaurants already partnered with the app, including Southern Craft Stove + Tap, Grilled Cheese City, Mesquite Chop House, and McDonald’s. The Uber Eats app is free to download and has been built specifically to make getting great food as easy as getting a ride, according to a statement from the company.     

“We are thrilled to launch Uber Eats in Oxford – bringing a convenient way for people to get the food they love, opening up new economic opportunities for driver partners, and enabling restaurants to connect with more customers,” Uber Eats spokesperson Eleanor George said.

There is already a network of Uber driver partners on the road in Oxford, something Uber Eats said will reinforce the standard for fast delivery. Average delivery times are around 35 minutes after placing an order, a news release from the company said.

Uber drivers will also have the option to deliver food in addition to human passengers, which could help them earn money even when they’re not being paged for a ride.

Bubba Gross, owner of Southern Craft Stove + Tap, said partnering with Uber Eats made sense for his business.

“Uber has big presence nationwide, so we had to take the opportunity to make it easier for customers to get our products,” Gross said. “We’ve had other delivery services here already, and this is just one more way for people to enjoy what we have to offer.”

To place an order from Uber Eats, one must either download the app or visit http://www.UberEATS.com. Once in the app or on the website, a customer can input their delivery address, browse local restaurants or search by cuisine type to find exactly what they’re craving, place or schedule an order and even track their delivery progress.

Uber Eats is available globally in more than 200 cities, and Amanda Lyne, who works at Gus’s Fried Chicken, said she’s excited for Oxford to join the service.

“We’re really excited about joining Uber Eats, and we hope people choose Gus’s so we can share our fried chicken with the LOU community,” Lyne said.

Other restaurants now on Uber Eats are Square Pizza, Phillips Grocery, Moe’s Original Barbecue, Pita Pit, Rooster’s Blues House, Zaap Thai and Tallahatchie Gourmet.
