Rebels return to Swayze for big SEC baseball series

It’s been three weeks since the No. 7 Ole Miss baseball team has been home for an SEC series.
It’s also been three weeks since the Ole Miss baseball team has won an SEC series.
That’s no coincidence since in the hyper-competitive Southeastern Conference most teams have been nationally ranked at some point and winning on the road is difficult. Take last weekend’s series loss at Vanderbilt as an example.
The Rebels played well, fighting back from deficits in the games they lost, but couldn’t hold on, losing tight contests at the end. Had those games been at friendly Swayze Field, where Ole Miss draws crowds in excess of 10,000 fans, the results easily could have gone the other way.
This Georgia team is good, ranked No. 12 in the country, with more league wins that Ole Miss. To say this is a big series is an understatement since we’ve already pointed out the importance of winning at home.
It’s a long season and the Rebels are still in the hunt for hosting an NCAA Regional, the ticket to having an easier road to Omaha for the College World Series. But to host a home regional, the Rebels need to finish in the top four in the SEC. At the moment, they are not quite there.
This weekend series could put Ole Miss back on track. See you at Swayze.
