Baseball giving Rebel fans something to cheer about

We watched the Ole Miss baseball team sweep another opponent this weekend. This time, Eastern Illinois was the victim, with the Rebels taking three games (two on Friday and one on Sunday).
The series sweep improved Ole Miss to 14-1 on the season, with two road games at a good Georgia State team this week before SEC play begins at Swayze Field this Friday.
The start of the baseball season has been energizing for Rebel fans because the No. 9-ranked Rebels have shown they have the makings of a team that can be among the best in the country.
That sterling freshman class from last year now has a year of experience and it shows. Mixed with other veterans and some talented newcomers, these Rebels can hit, pitch and field as one of the best teams in America.
The only challenge, as conference play begins, is that other teams in the SEC have similar abilities. Florida is ranked No. 1. Auburn, ranked in the Top 10, has been on a tear. Arkansas, Texas A&M, Kentucky…the list goes on since there are eight or nine league teams as bona fide top 10.
Suffice to say that Swayze Field will be the scene of some drama this spring. We can’t wait to watch it all play out.
