Bond referendum an important one

This community understands the importance of education, so investing in our schools has never been an issue.
That doesn’t mean, however, that we should not ask questions and learn as much as we can about any bond issue and how the money will be spent.
That’s why an open forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Oxford at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 in the parish hall at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church to discuss the Oxford schools upcoming bond issue vote is valuable.
Residents will vote on the Oxford School District bond referendum on September 26, deciding whether to spend up to $38 million to build a new elementary school and fund additions and renovations at other schools.
If passed, the bond issue would add roughly $38 for every $100,000 in property value annually for Oxford homeowners.
We have been pleased to see the involvement of the League of Women Voters of Oxford in recent elections, providing a community service to all citizens by making more information and dialogue public through forums.
Now is the time to ask questions on the bond issue, with the vote scheduled in less than two weeks. We encourage Oxford residents to attend the bond issue and get involved with the information process.
