In the sports broadcasting world, if you show consistent favoritism for one team you are called a homer.
We will use that term for our affection for David Kellum, our local native who is well-known as the Voice of the Rebels, doing play-by-play for Ole Miss football, basketball and baseball.
It’s hard to hide our affection and pride so we won’t even try.
David Kellum is one of the good guys, and he’s our good guy since he grew up in town and graduated from Lafayette High School and Ole Miss.
We remember hearing him on the local radio station when he was in high school, along with friend Rick Mize, another good guy and radio talent.
We remember when the opportunity to become Voice of the Rebels finally came his way and some wondered if he had a strong enough voice and persona to fill the role. We remember how he quickly became a household name among Rebel fans, trusted for delivering the crisp results and crafting his trademark style of a solid and approachable voice.
Kellum is a proverbial workhorse at the job, studying opponents and bringing his best year-after-year. He’s synonymous with Ole Miss sports these days, after years in the booth.
So, welcome to another season, David. We’re proud of your accomplishments and look forward to many more years of your broadcast work.
