A weekend full of off-kilter art events is coming to Oxford in early August.

The fourth annual Art-er Limits Fringe Festival will be returning to town from Aug. 3 through Aug. 6.

Wayne Andrews, the Executive Director of the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council, says it’s an event for people “of any age and background.”

“We like to offer a final summer event before everyone is back in the fall routine,” Andrews said. “The event is a staycation with family activities during the day and different entertainment each night.”

The festival consists of a wide variety of activities and performances, with many only lasting 45 minutes. The intention is for festivalgoers to sample as much as possible.

On Thursday, Aug. 3, the festival begins with the Iron Bartender contest. Oxford bartenders will be given ingredients to make a cocktail and attendees will get to taste and judge the entries. Cathead Vodka and Southern Glazers will be sponsoring the contest.

The next day, there will be numerous other events like a one-man “Forrest Gump” show, a Blind Book Exchange and live music at the Small Hall (1109 Van Buren Ave.).

On Saturday, there will be kid’s art activities, film screenings and musical performances at the Powerhouse, University Museum and the Courthouse Lawn. That evening, there will be a burlesque show, live theater and a magician.

The festival ends on Sunday with the Food Truck Fight at the Old Armory Pavilion from 6 to 8 p.m. The “Fight” will raise funds for local charities and will feature live music and beer tasting.
