Vicky Fitchett has read every single John Grisham book with the exception of two. And one of them, “Camino Island,” was just printed two weeks ago.
Fitchett made the trip from Illinois on Monday and arrived in Oxford Monday night to meet her literary hero at his Square Books signing on Tuesday. This was her first trip to the state and she also plans to see Grisham again at his signing in Jackson.
“I’m nervous,” Fitchett said regarding meeting Grisham. She, along with many others, held a copy of “Camino Island” in the downstairs level of the bookstore. “I don’t know what I’m going to say.”
That seemed to be the sentiment with many people waiting for Grisham to open the sold-out signing. A raffle was held in advance with 200 lucky people receiving the opportunity to meet the bestselling author.
This book tour for “Camino Island” was Grisham’s first jaunt around the country to promote his work in 25 years.
“This is a big deal,” said Oxonian Frances Ferguson who was also waiting downstairs, “I’ve been reading him since ‘A Time to Kill.’”
David Tannehill has been a fan for almost 30 years after his mother turned him on to the author.
“I think it’s great that he came back to Oxford,” Tannehill said.
