A new Hyatt Place hotel is in the works, but before it’s built, the Oxford Planning Commission voted that some requirements will have to be met first.

On Monday night, the Commission voted to pass a request from Hyatt developers that would see some changes in the surrounding area, particularly in relation to Sisk Avenue and Highways 6 and 7.

According to the proposal, the building permit for the Hyatt will not be issued until the construction work connecting Sisk to those highways is underway. In addition, the new Spargo Subdivision will have to first be approved by the mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Construction to begin soon?

Reanna Mayoral, the assistant city engineer, says that the construction from Sisk to Highway 6 and 7 would likely be underway “in the next year.”

“The city, (the Hyatt) developer and MDOT are separately making great improvements toward the Sisk and 7 interchange,” she added. “We just don’t have a date.”

According to the proposal, the Hyatt Place would be constructed “approximately 500 feet north of Commonwealth Boulevard.” The lot that the hotel would be built on is approximately 2.686 acres.

The Hyatt Place would be a four story hotel with 123 guest rooms with 136 parking spots.

“When Sisk is extended to (Highway) 6, that will relieve some traffic,” Mayoral said. “We are very close on Sisk and 7 and Sisk and 6.”
