Jaz Brisack of Oxford recently attended the fifth annual Mississippi N.E.W. (National Education for Women) Leadership residential program on the campus of Mississippi University for Women.
Brisack was among 21 women from public, private and community colleges at The W to experience the leadership program, unlike any effort that has been seen in the state of Mississippi. The program was held from May 22-26.
The participants, who were nominated by their institutions and selected by the program directors, had public policy information at their fingertips with state, regional and national leaders who educated them about ways they could become more involved in public service and the political process.
In partnership with the John C. Stennis Center for Public Service, based in Starkville, N.E.W. Leadership is a nonpartisan program designed to develop foundational leadership skills for college women who participate.
The national program was developed by the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.
