Fat Eddie’s Lamar Lounge saved a space at their bar for a princess from a galaxy far, far away.
On Tuesday night, following the news of actress Carrie Fisher’s death, the restaurant saved a space for her at the bar, which at one time was owned by her father, the singer Eddie Fisher.
Tragically, on Wednesday night actress Debbie Reynolds, the mother of Carrie Fisher, also passed away suddenly.
Carrie Fisher was best known for portraying the role of Princess Leia in the Star Wars series. She had been playing the role up until last year in the newest entry of the saga, “The Force Awakens.” Her final film role will be in the film’s sequel due out next December.
“We had a sign, a shot of Limoncello and a candle set up for her,” said restaurateur John Currence, who owns the City Grocery Restaurant Group. “It happens that a close friend of mine’s wife and Carrie were best friends.”
Currence says that the bar counter belonged to Eddie during the mid-‘50s.
Though Leia was her iconic role, Carrie Fisher was also a witty author, detailing her experiences with addiction and bipolar disorder with humor, in her books including “Wishful Drinking” and “Postcards from the Edge”.
Fisher was born in 1956, and passed away at the age of 60 after complications from a heart attack she suffered on a transatlantic flight last Friday.
As for whether or not the space for Carrie will remain a fixture at the bar, Currence is still unsure.
“It’s altogether possible that we’d put something permanent there,” he said. “But we haven’t gotten that far, we just wanted to put something up last night.”
