For the month of November, the Southside Gallery (150 Courthouse Square) will be exhibiting three artists who are no strangers to the building.

“All three of the artists we’re exhibiting this month have exhibited at the gallery in the past,” Gallery Director Wil Cook said. “These are artists who routinely have work here.”

Birmingham native and artist Drew Galloway, who has had his work displayed at the gallery on and off for the past 12 years, will be showing his landscape pieces on collaged metal and other found materials. In addition, he will have three large-scale landscape paintings as well.

Though painter Philip Jackson’s work is usually hyper-realistic still life pieces, the series he’s exhibiting, “Preludes”, is noticeably more abstract.

“Jackson calls this style (in the exhibit) ‘perceptual painting’,” Cook said. “These are a big break as to how he looks at his subject matter. I think he’s painting more of what the subject evokes rather than how the subject looks.”

When he’s not creating art himself, Jackson is the head of the painting program at Ole Miss.

The final artist showcased is Rod Moorhead, who perhaps has the longest relationship with Southside Gallery as one of its original owners.

Moorhead, who began his art career as a potter, eventually turned to sculpture. The gallery will be showing two of his life-size terra cotta figures alongside a smaller series of figures entitled “Furies”.

The three artists’ work will be on display at the Southside Gallery until Nov. 26.
