Women of Distinction nominees announced; luncheon Nov. 9

Girl Scouts Heart of the South announces the Lafayette-Oxford-University community nominees for the 2016 Women of Distinction awards, and will honor them at its sixth annual awards luncheon at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 11:30a.m., Nov. 9.
Ten ladies have been nominated for their character, service and significant contributions made in their homes, churches, schools and communities.
The nominees are: Shirley Crawford, Shannon Ferguson, Brittany Gilleylen, Dr. Gloria Kellum, Janis Miller, Wanda Poole, Elizabeth Randall, Pam Swain, Dr. Judith Thompson, and Rosie Vassallo.
All nominees will be recognized and the winner announced during the awards luncheon.
Edith Kelly Green, first female African-American CPA in the state of Tennessee, founding member of the Ole Miss Women’s Council and owner of one of the most successful Lenny’s Sub Shop franchises in the country will be the keynote speaker.
Tickets are $30 and are available online at www.girlscoutshs.org/lou-womenofdistinction until Nov. 9 or until sold out.
Regions Bank will again raffle tickets to win a Life Green bicycle for $5 each or five for $20. All proceeds generated from the event will support and benefit local Girl Scout troops and the Girl Scouts Heart of the South council.
