A trafficking drug charge has been dropped against Oxford resident Freddie Holmes, of 222 Salem Road.

According to court records, Holmes was charged last year for trafficking Lortab, a narcotic pain reliever.

It was later revealed that it was his brother, Frederick Holmes, also of Oxford, who was eventually indicted for the sale of a controlled substance in June and sentenced to six years in prison.

On June 23, the Lafayette County District Attorney’s Office dismissed the charge against Freddie Holmes.

Holmes said it took them two years to realize it was a case of mistaken identity and that the arrest caused him to lose his job and pay expensive attorney fees.
