This summer The Oxford EAGLE is blessed to have four dedicated interns.

Not only will they learn some ins and outs of newspapering, but they will also get a good head start at building up their clipping files and have an internship on their resume for the next steps in life.

Our primary intern, Reid Posey, was also with us last summer and many of you may have already interacted with him. Reid is up here just about every day writing anything we throw at him, whether it is business or features or anything in between.

Reid graduated from the University of Mississippi and was in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College from 2012-2014 and has a long list of honors and involvement ranging from Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta Kappa to being a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Reid plans to head to law school at UM in the fall and we hope to send him on the way with a honed approach to writing, a familiarity with deadlines and a knowledge of the stresses from the daily grind.

Our second intern is Ana Martinez, who is going through the journalism program at Ole Miss. She began the journalism degree program in August 2014 after completing two years at Hinds Community College. She graduated high school in Brandon.

Ana has, from a variety of jobs while in Brandon, a good working knowledge of retail and business, so she is going to work on a variety of business stories for the EAGLE this summer.

She has worked for Rebel Radio as a DJ, was a teller with Bank Plus in Flowood, an ice cream chef at Dairy Queen in Brandon and handled stocking and customer service at Mac’s FreshMarket in Ridgeland.

Our third intern, Mrudvi Bakshi, is an international graduate student at Ole Miss. She looks to complete her master’s degree in journalism in 2017 and has a variety of experience already overseas, but she is learning the ropes at newspapers in the United States.

Mrudvi has written columns and features for Travex Magazine, Gulf News, Time Out Bahrain and Khaleej Times, all in Dubai.

Since she enjoys features and we want her to learn more about the news side of American papers, a good beat for Mrudvi is nonprofits. She will be calling on you nonprofits in the LOU to see what is going on and get you in the paper, and if you have an outstanding employee or project, she can put a creative spin on it.

Our fourth intern, Allen Brewer, is very excited about the journalism profession, has already brought in complimentary calls to the EAGLE from the community and on his first day on the job wrote a story that was picked up by the state wire for a weekend blitz to all papers in the state.

Allen graduated from Pontotoc City High School in 2015 and wrote for his high school paper. He is currently studying journalism at Northwest Community College and also works for that school paper. He plans to pursue a degree in journalism from a four-year university after wrapping up at Northwest.

Allen is eager and excited to learn all elements of the business and you might see him around town shooting photos also.

We are incredibly grateful for the interns helping out this summer and we want to teach them as much as we can before they move on to their next opportunity in life.
We ask you in the community to welcome them into your business, workplace or home and know they are excited and eager to be learning. We all plan to enjoy their refreshing attitudes and love for the craft … until they turn into cranky, coffee-chugging, overtired full-time journalists like the rest of us!
