OIS seeking volunteers for Read Across America Day

Oxford Intermediate School will host a reading party on Wednesday.
Parents, school friends and community members are invited to grab their hats and come read with the cat during National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Residents of all ages are encouraged to volunteer to read to fifth- and sixth-graders and celebrate the fun and value of reading. Various volunteer reading times are open from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, which is located at 501 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up with OIS teacher Erica Avent, who is spearheading the school event designed to celebrate the joys of reading.
“We invite others to help generate the excitement for reading with our students,” Avent said. “Our reading party is going to be fun, and we want our parents and community to be a part of it, too; this is the perfect opportunity for others to share their love of reading with our students. They help motivate our students by sharing their excitement and love of reading.”
Interested volunteers should email Avent at ebavent@oxfordsd.org to sign up to volunteer to read.
