The Lafayette County Emergency Medical Service has organized a class for those who are interested in becoming certified emergency medical responders.

It is a class taught by a licensed and experienced instructor out of Tupelo and does cost $180. But, that is a minimal cost when it could be you keeping a family member alive while waiting for an ambulance. Or if you are working in a factory and someone has an accident involving a machine and you are keeping your co-worker stable until help gets there. The reasons for every family and every place of business to have someone certified in CPR, first aid, caring for wounds and more could fill up this newspaper page.

The Lafayette County EMR group will also pay the tuition for anyone who agrees to sign on and volunteer for six months. You could help people in the Grove at football games or make it to the scene of a fire or shooting down the block before the police and medics do and stabilize a patient. You could help a lot of people and make a difference in the community.

The EMR group holds these classes a couple times a year and recently received so much publicity prior that it had to hold two classes. We hope that is the same case again this time and people invest in the community and give of themselves.
