OXFORD — Fred Carter Jr., 86, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at his home in Oxford. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Cemetery with Elder Grady Camp officiating. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Union County, he was self-employed as a ceramic tile subcontractor. He was a Baptist and served on the board of the Yocona Community Center. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He served in the United States Navy achieving the rank of Boatswain Mate Second Class.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Finchum and two brothers, Buddy Carter and Johnny Lee Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Carter of Oxford; two daughters, Leah Ruby Smith of Coldwater and Deena Coleman of Hernando; son, Steve Carter of Eads, Tennessee; sister, Thelma Sparks of Toccopola; brother, Sammy Carter of Pontotoc; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
